Part 4 of the Aggression in Dogs Conference Mini-Series

Today I had the great of pleasure talking with Suzanne Clothier. The creator of “Relationship Centered Training” and the Author of one of my favorite books, Bones Would Rain from the Sky: Deepening Our Relationships with Dogs

Guest: Suzanne Clothier has worked with animals professionally since 1977. Her Relationship Centered Training™ approach blends science and heart to create humane, effective and practical solutions for dogs and the people who work with them, whether professional working dogs or couch warming companions. She has presented workshops around the world on a broad range of topics.

An innovative trainer always seeking better ways to understand, assess and improve what we do with and for dogs, Suzanne has developed a variety of Relationship Centered Training techniques, including Treat/Retreat. The author of the ground-breaking Bones Would Rain from the Sky: Deepening Our Relationships With Dogs (Warner, 2002) and many other books, DVDs and training tools, she is currently offering online courses for trainers and dog owners.

A long time breeder of German Shepherds, 11 generations of her dogs have been successful in multiple dog sports, SAR, therapy work, and as guide dog breeding stock. She lives on a working farm in upstate New York with husband John Rice, and their considerable animal family.

Book Recommendations: Kinship with All Life, by J. Allen Boone and The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey

Host: Marika completed her MA in Anthrozoology at the University of Exeter, UK in 2016 and upon moving back to the Seattle area of Washington state she joined the board of Homeward Pet Adoption Center. She also holds a University degree in Zoology (UW) and a CPDT-KA from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers.

Now, host of The Deal with Animals, she enjoys chatting with people who know a lot more than she does about the various research disciplines of Anthrozoology as well as authors, nonprofits, professionals, and enthusiasts!

Humans interact with animals every day of our lives. Even those without pets interact with animals in various ways: diet, wildlife, the clothes they wear. Even most medicines use animals in testing or in the medicine itself. This is a podcast about Anthrozoology: the study of interaction between humans and non-human animals.
