The roots of the animal rights movement in the US date back to the 1870’s and the so-called “Gilded Age” when a visionary named Henry Bergh founded the first ASPCA and battled everyone from teamsters to P. T. Barnum and Cornelius Vanderbilt. Ernest Freeberg, author of “A Traitor to his Species” joins us to explore this quixotic personality.
The post The Other Animals – A Traitor to his Species – Henry Bergh and the Birth of the Animal Rights Movement appeared first on WWDB-AM.

The Other Animals, hosted by Laurent Levy, is Philadelphia’s only radio show covering all things animal related that looks at the fascinating and inconsistent way humans deal with and impact non-humans. Each week we explore a different topic in depth.
