Today, I’m so honored to have none other than Sophie Gamand on the show. Sophie is an animal activist, artist, and award-winning photographer. You might know her from her stunning, powerful, and emotional photographs from her pitbull flower power series and wet dog series. She does her work pro bono for non-profits, rescues, and shelters to communicate humanity and the idea of dogs having agency through her art.

She joins the show today to share her experience learning about the world of rescue in Puerto Rico, her work and advocacy for shelters and rescue programs, and how she uses her art for good. We discuss the lessons she learned about rescues and different types of shelter systems in Puerto Rico, where her deep connection with animals started, the stigma around adoption, and how certain breeds have come to reflect a person’s status. We have an open, honest, and raw conversation about dog breeding, how Sophie’s series changes the negative narrative that Pitbulls receive, and the animals in Sophie’s life encourage her to keep going.
