Co-hosts Camille and Peter kick off the show with a review of the new KFC vegan chicken fillet sandwich, and vegan chicken popcorn—a game changer!

In the news, the hosts discuss two Manitoba hens who were illegally discarded in a landfill, footage of a dying pig inside a transport truck on a hot day outside the notorious Fearmans Pork slaughterhouse, and new video of chicken cruelty in B.C., where workers were filmed abusing birds while stuffing them into crates. There’s also a great piece in the Toronto Star (by co-host Jessica!) about why renting out ducklings is a bad idea that should end, and news that fur-pushing jacket company Canada Goose is facing massive revenue declines.

In the main segment, Peter and Camille discuss legal efforts aimed at having animals considered to be victims of crimes, with the ability to provide a victim impact statement in court. The hosts debate whether this move is merely symbolic, or whether it advances protections for animals in a meaningful way.

This episode’s hero is the federal government for devoting $2.6 million to helping Alberta businesses develop more plant-based food products—yay! The zero is North Korea, for apparently ordering citizens to hand over companion dogs to be killed and eaten as meat, in response to a country-wide food shortage.
